Pompeii: Public and Private Life
Zanker & Schneider
This guide to the ruins of the Italian city of Pompeii is refreshingly straightforward and rife with insight. Zanker, a professor at the University of Munich and director of Rome's German Archeological Institute, offers a plausible and interesting description of what life in Pompeii was probably like in A.D. 79, including a comparision between the conventions of that time and today.

Our Departure Lounge Bookshop will shortly display a 'Featured Travel Book' shelf in the left-hand column of the ever increasing number of pages carrying travel articles. This will only carry a single book per page, and this will be randomly selected from a small travel book pool. We give this book more prominence because it is more relevant to our content. See the example to the left.

The number of titles in our travel book pool will never exceed 50% of the number of pages on which they are display. (So for 50 pages, for example, we will not take more than 25 titles into the pool.) This is your firm guarantee of exposure across our travel pages. This shelf - in its prominent side location - will only contain travel books. (Bear in mind the 'early-bird' bonus: the sooner you get your books into the pool the greater their initial boost will be, for the fewer books in the pool the more they are displayed!)

Check out the example display to the left. Note there is sufficient space for a reasonable description, we use a good size thumbnail cover image, and we offer up to four buttons that can lead to pages of your choice with a selection of standard buttons such as: BUY, various Amazon buttons, Publisher, Author, Review, etc, plus the option of tailored buttons. Country 'flag' buttons enable you to lead purchasers to bookstores in their own country. (The application form provides full details of this.)

Bear in mind that people never get to buy a book online if they don't discover it, and they are not likely to be seeking out publisher sites. We already have a captive audience. Even if potential customers visit a vast online bookshop like Amazon.com, unless they are actually searching for the appropriate title or region they are unlikely to discover your titles. Our online bookshop gives them that chance because we give all our titles an equal chance of prominence on every bookshelf we display. And since so many people view our pages it is inevitable that books advertised on our shelves will be seen. Through our Departure Lounge Bookshop we offer publishers a guaranteed means of getting their titles seen for an entire year without a large financial outlay. Read the left-hand panel feature on our general book promotion page to see how we can offer your book guaranteed exposure that is better than many publisher sites achieve.

Fixed Page Promotion

If you've found the perfect page to promote your book (example: a book about Pompeii), why not take our Fixed Page Promotion offer and just place your book promotion ad on that page? If you do, this is a 'Fixed Page Promotion'. If you do this in addition to General Bookshelf Promotion across all our travel pages, we offer you great discount on your Fixed Page Promotion (see rate card).

General Bookshelf

Our 'General Bookshelf' is at the bottom of all our travel pages (see example below) and this is the place for non-travel books. We are mainly interested in novels for this shelf: holiday reading! This uniquely always includes one bestseller plus three client books. The client books are taken from a restricted pool of titles and are randomly displayed across our travel pages. The philosophy is that the generally familiar bestseller draws the eye and this brings equal interest to the other titles. Spontaneous sales that occur through this are rather like the sales at an airport departure lounge bookshop: you see it, it interests you, you buy it while you have the chance! Especially so since the bottom shelf contains a label informing you the shelf contents change and you might not see that title again! This bottom shelf is mainly aimed at fiction - reading for the vacation being planned. Click here for full details of this.

Quantity Discounts

We offer you good discounts with breaks at 2-4 and 5+. See our Rate Card for full details. You get the same rate as for books on the General Bookshelf but, because your subject matter is more relevant to our site content, your book has greater prominence by being placed in the side panel alongside an article.

Free Book Promotion

You've already got writers capable of producing a good travel article about the place covered by your travel book or guide. So why not make use of this and get some free coverage? We offer Strategic Travel Partners the chance to place an additional side travel bookshelf on any travel article they write for our Travellers' Tales section. The ideal arrangement is for your to organize a short travel article to our guidelines (example) that covers the same region as the book. That way you are selling to people already interested in visiting the region in question!

This deal is simple. We get more, well-written and informative content. You get free advertising on a page devoted to the region covered by your book. It's a straight win-win situation!
